About Lapitec®

Lapitec® is a sintered stone material engineered by Lapitec S.p.A. The surfaces are performant and offer contemporary appeal along with a traditional feel. The optimum demonstration of Italian style, Lapitec® sintered stone is an elegant choice that offers a variety of colors and panel sizes. The material is durable, stylish, and easy to care for.

Lapitec® Versatile & Durable

Lapitec sintered stone surfaces are versatile and can be used in a number of applications. Several areas of architecture and design benefit from these durable surfaces. Here are some of the applications:

  • Kitchen Countertops
  • Flooring
  • Wall Cladding
  • Exterior Cladding
  • Paving
  • Swimming Pools
  • Bathroom Surfaces
  • Rainscreen Cladding

That is quite a list of applications for this material. As a sintered stone, Lapitec® is formed under intense heat and pressure; making it both durable and flexible. Regarding its durability, the website makes the following statement:

Lapitec® is a product that is long lasting and completely weather proof. Every slab is resistant to acids, alkalis, deep abrasions, fire, frost and is unaffected by UV rays. It is also resistant to graffiti.

The durability of the material makes it versatile as well. The same page conveys the thought of versatility in this statement:

Lapitec® provides the most suitable and diverse solutions for construction and furnishing, with the dimensions required by designers. Being a "full body" material it is easy to work and can be utilized in countless applications.

Yes, the nature of Lapitec® sintered stone means it is selected for various uses; both indoors and outdoors. However, that does not mean Lapitec surfaces are strictly utilitarian in nature.

Lapitec Color Selection

Even though Lapitec® sintered surfaces are used in both outdoor and indoor applications, they also are available in a range of colors and finishes. Many of the color names are the same in the above collections. However, that does not mean that the surfaces look the same. This is because each of those collections has a different finish. Hence the texture and appearance look different when comparing the same color in different finishes. For example, the color Brooklyn is in both the Velvet and Urban finish collections. Yet when you compare the Velvet Brooklyn with the Urban Brooklyn you find that the appearance is not the same. So if you are looking to design or fabricate Lapitec® sintered material, keep that in mind.

Fabricating Lapitec® Sintered Stone

Fabricators that have worked with natural stone for many years, or even engineered stone for any length of time will find that sintered stone is a different experience altogether and requires a specific workflow and even tooling that is designed to work on the hard, compact material that is Lapitec®. Why is this the case?

Lapitec® Bridge Saw Blades

Because of the way that sintered surfaces are produced, the resulting material is a compact and hard surface that needs to be cut using specific tools and blades. Making sure to have a bridge saw blade for Lapitec® is important because it makes cutting Lapitec® easier with less issues.

The routine used to work with and fabricate sitnered stone is also important since there are specific techniques that need to be employed when fabricating materials that have been engineered under intense pressure and heat. So be sure to follow the best practices published by Lapitec® when you work with this material.

Lapitec® Care & Maintenance

As with most sintered materials, Lapitec® is very receptive to cleaners and chemicals. However, the main feature of this sintered stone surface is the way in which the ease of care and environmental attention has been engineered into the material. Benefits of Lapitec® involve a scientific approach to the design and engineering of the material that provides the following:

  • Air Purifcation
  • Antibacterial
  • Anti-odor
  • Disintegrating Action
  • Hydrophilic
  • Self-cleaning

Rather than explaining each of those aspects of Lapitec® surfaces here, we will simply refer you to the official informational video provided by Lapitec® that explains how each of these is accomplished. Just watch the 4 minute video on the Bio-care Video Page.

As we have seen, Lapitec® sintered stone surfaces have a unique place in the sotne surface industry. The material is highly functional and durable with specific environmental benefits achieved through scientific engineering.
